Our day started with us photographing the guys at Dobbie’s parents house, Dobbie’s father is also called Dobbie, so when I said, ” Dobbie look up”, they both did.

We took some photos of the groom and groomsmen with sun glasses on and off.

This day may not have ended up so well. Chrissy was standing at the end of the driveway taking this shot when a car slowed down to turn off the main road, right behind it and travelling at speed was another car. To avoid contact the second car drove up on the side of the road missing Chrissy by about half a metre in the process. Chrissy said that someone was looking out for her that day, I agree!

Jodi and her bridesmaids got ready in Wakefield; when we arrived we were greeted by this wee cutey. This is Jodi’s neice and she followed us around like a little puppy, asking us all sorts of questions about wedding photography and cameras, maybe a wedding photographer in the making?

Everyone in the house was buzzing with excitement.

Jodi’s hair amd makeup looked gorgeous.

The laughing never stopped all day, it was really good to see Leah again.

Jodi was walking into her bedroom, “stop” I said, I then quickly
got the shot of the back of this amazing wedding dress which
Chrissy fell in love with!

Prior to her wedding, Jodi told us that she was worried about
being in front of the camera – yeah right Jodi you’re such
a natural!

Stunning! Actually that comment brings up a good point, how
many guys get to tell woman every week how beautiful they
look with their wife standing next to them?

Jodi planned to walk up the aisle wearing gumboots (she did).
It was very funny.

Now, this is a seriously cool way to arrive to your wedding ceremony. Jodi’s father is at the controls. I remember hearing Jodi’s mother say, “just get them down safely”; nice flying John.

After capturing shots of the chopper from in front of the house, I made a very quick dash to the landing site on a nearby ridge. Yeap, got there in time, certainly helped that the chopper had to wind down before everyone could get out.

Off with the gummy’s and on with the shoes, the guests (and Dobbie) certainly had a good laugh – Jodi is such a character.

It was a delightful sunny day with just enough breeze to keep the heat down and what a view.

With the formalities over for now, it was time for the location shots. Transportation – an old red Chevy pickup. “Dobbie, you’re not going to drink and drive I hope”.

It was one thing to be bounced around while hanging out of the window of our car, but to also be covered in dust – errrrrrrr. This shot makes it all worth while though!

We had cased this location out a week before the wedding, all we needed was a beautiful sunny day and a gorgeous couple – YES!

How this shot came about was, while we were taking a group shot, the pickup started to roll backwards (Apparently the handbrake doesn’t work so well). That gave us an idea for a photo.  Dobbie’s also working on the theory, start how you want to finish, note that I said THEORY.

Sometimes photos do not give the perception of height, this is one of those. The rock that Jodi is standing on is about nine metres up from flat ground. Hence the challenge – with one hand Chrissy had to hold a very heavy light stand and at the same time make sure that the strobe light was pointing in the right direction, with the other hand she was busy swatting off sand flies. To get these shots I had to virtually lie on the side of the hill at about a 60 degree angle. In the meanwhile Jodi was standing on a rather narrow rock edge holding her veil out and taking  directions from Chrissy and I – LOVE doing this stuff!

Now to get Dobbie into the scene.

Back to Jodi’s parents place for the reception where the marquee looked absolutely amazing, so much time and effort was put into setting it up – well done guys.

Ching, ching. It’s been the most amazing and funfilled day and the time just seemed to fly by for the location photos, I think Chrissy was rather disappointed when it ended.

But the fun goes on, told you that the laughing never stopped all day and evening.

We were kindly invited to stay on and enjoy the meal and speeches, not to mention that a couple of beers went down well also. A lot of planning goes into having the perfect day, this was the perfect wedding day! We had a ball guys and I know that Chrissy is itching to start designing your photobook – it will be awesome. Can’t wait to see you soon.

Olivia and her sister Charlotte grew up in their family home in Motueka. Charlotte did a fantastic job with the makeup as well as being a bridesmaid – talk about multi-tasking.

So much thought and planning goes into organising a wedding so on the day Chrissy and I take the time to photograph the wedding detail and accessories.

This shot (If I don’t mind saying myself) looks good enough for a magazine.

The wedding day is often very busy and it’s nice to take a few minutes out with the ones that you love, especially over a nice glass of bubbly.

There is something very special about mother and daughter on the wedding day.

Olivia looked absolutely gorgeous, you can’t tell that she is not a great fan of being in front of a camera. Olivia did really well all day, especially given that there were two of us.

Paul is a very funny guy, he’s English, plays rugby, lifts weights and
practices dancing from Pulp Fiction.

Chrissy loves photographing littlies, I have a feeling she will be doing a lot of that over the autumn and spring months as we will be soon launching Nelson Portrait Photography.

It was a beautiful sunny Nelson day but a little bit windy; Charlotte came to the rescue to stop the veil blowing away. It was really lovely to see celebrant Dianne Strong again after having some time off with health issues.

As soon as the word kiss was mentioned there was no stopping Paul, I think he’d been waiting all day for this moment.

This little fella is Paul and Olivia’s nephew.

It was so lovely to see the special bond between Olivia and Charlotte.

Estates, starting with the wine cellar.

These two lovebirds looked so happy.

Inside the wine cellar was a very cool place to take beautiful wedding photos, Chrissy captured the close ups while I covered the whole scene.

From the dark browns to vibrant green, love the contrast in colour.

The reception area at Woollastons estates looked amazing. A fun filled evening was had by all, most of Paul’s family had come over from England to share this special occasion.

The light shining down through these tall pine trees really set the scene
for some very cool pre-ceremony wedding photos, not to mention that
everyone enjoyed having a lot of laughs in the process, especially when
Chrissy kept getting caught up in the bracken.

It didn’t take much to get Ryan to smile as his groomsmen and groomswomen gave him a hard time all day. In actual fact, Chrissy and I joined in as well.

And of course a few beers never go amiss.

Jo and her bridesmaids got dressed at the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco. We have had the pleasure of photographing so many weddings here, we are starting to feel that it is our home away from home.

Jo looked very gorgeous, she was so excited about the day ahead.

These young flower girls were also very excited about this very special day.

Jo’s brother was really proud to walk his sister over the bridge and up the isle at The Queens Gardens in Nelson.

Marriage celebrant Tony Barnett conducted the wedding ceremony (we’ve been seeing a lot of Tony lately). As with all of Tony’s weddings, there was lots of laughter and emotion.

Now, this cute little guy was the offical ring bearer, he certainly amused everybody when he walked straight past Ryan and Jo without stopping to give them the wedding rings.

Ok, now he’s taken a runner that way!

After a little coaxing he came back and delivered the rings.

After all of that, Ryan and Jo made a beautiful declaration of love and commitment.

I have done this shot a few times now and I still think that it’s pretty cool.

Jo gets a big hug from her new mother in-law. I really do love a picture where you can feel the emotion.

There’s always so many cameras out during a wedding – great to see.

I love this shot of Ryan and his mum, I can see where he gets his great sense of homour.

With the formalities over for now, it was time for some location photos around the Queens Gardens.

Ryan loved to sneak in a kiss every now and then.

These photos were taken on the new bridge to the Chinese Gardens.

With all the rain we’ve had this summer, everything is still looking so lush and green – just lovely!

Chrissy spotted this very cool tree with massive roots, good work sweetheart.

We then headed to the Nelson Boulder Bank. With the tide out and dark looming clouds it made a stunning setting for wedding photos.

Three cheers for Michelle for being one of the guys today; someone had to keep these four in line.

It can sometimes be a long day for the bridal party as most of the focus is on the bride and groom, but these guys just went with the flow and had a great time. They really made the day a lot of fun for us as well.

Their colour theme for the day was based on purple and mauve.

Teresa even made her own wedding dress – just beautiful!

Not to mention that she also meretriciously hand-stitched her long white veil.

Zoe was their little flower girl, she was so excited all day long.

Eion and Teresa chose to have their wedding ceremony at Founders Heritage Park in Nelson. With help from friends and family they set up the Granary room the day before their wedding and believe me, it looked absolutely amazing. There were even tealight candles lining the isle.

Due to illness, Teresa spent some of the Christmas period in hospital. Over the last few months leading up to her wedding day she had a pretty rough time of things. But not today, this was her day!

I don’t think that we have seen a more excitable groom – it was wonderful to see.

I needed a bit of elevation for the guest shots, this worked!

See what I mean? Eion’s smile was contagious all day.

Our first location for the wedding photos was at Miyazu Gardens. It was a cloudy day, helping to make our job a little easier.

These two did not need any prompting to have a fun time.

Or to have a romantic time.

After seeing that the reflection in the water looked amazing, we thought that we would get the entire bridal party in this picturesque scene.

The great thing about having two photographers is that we can capture a variety of photos taken at the same time (excuse the sales pitch).

For their second photo location, Eion and Teresa chose an old house we sometimes photograph at. They liked what we had done here previously and wanted a similar look for themselves.

For Teresa and Eion having beach wedding photos was very important, therefore we allowed additional time for these shots.

After a stormy night before the wedding it cleared perfectly for Dan and Selina’s special day. We started out at Dan’s parents house for the grooms pre-ceremony photos.

This little cutey is Dan’s nephew, he was very busy taking it all in.

Dan looked very handsome in his grey suit. Have I mentioned before that I just love grey suits (probably only about ten times). Grey always photographs nicely amongst the greenery which offers a lovely contrast.

Very nice!

Upon arriving at Selina’s parents house where the girls were getting ready, we had a lovely surprise.  We had met Selina’s parents a couple of years ago (on one of our rare weekends off), where we had breakfast with them both at the Kimi Ora Resort. In front of everybody, Daron reminded Jayn that he had a hot spa with her, Jayn quickly responded by telling everyone that it was in fact a sauna and our partners were there also. That’s my Daron, anything to get a reaction and a photo.

Gorgeous makeup as usual by Rachel Roper who provides makeup for a lot of our brides. We had the pleasure of photographing Rachel and Josiah’s wedding last April; we are now waiting patiently for the pitter patter of little feet.

There is always a lot happening during the last hour or so before the wedding ceremony. The lovely bridesmaids were awesome in helping Selina get ready.

Cones of rose petals for the guests are lots of fun, especially when they throw them over the newlyweds.

Off to one of our favourite Nelson wedding venues; The Grand Mecure Nelson Monaco Resort. The guests wait in anticipation for the bride to walk in.

A very proud dad, it must be quite a surreal feeling giving your baby away and reflecting on how quickly the years have gone by. I’m sure I will be a complete blubbering mess when one of our three children decides to marry. The eldest is only 12, so I think I still have plenty of time to keep them to myself.

They say that a picture speaks a thousand words – sure does.

The staff at the Monaco, as usual, did a fantastic job setting everything up on the Village Green.

Tony Barnett is a wonderful marriage celebrant, he makes his ceremonies so personal to the bride and groom, he also seems to know just about everyone at his weddings as well.

Reciting the wedding vows is a very special part of the ceremony.

And so is placing the wedding rings.

Not to mention, here comes the kiss.

There goes those beautiful yellow and white rose petals.

After a touching ceremony, the guests were treated to bubbles. We then photographed family and friends before heading off for the location photos.

We planned to take Dan and Selina to this lovely grassy meadow where they could have some quiet time to be intimate. Daron and I feel so privileged to capture these special moments with the bride and groom, after all, that’s what a wedding is all about – LOVE!

Fun times with your best friends, these moments will be cherished forever.

We spotted this cool log, so of course had to get Dan and Selina on it.

The guys had to have some fun as well, after all, boys will be boys. I must say that if I wasn’t behind the camera, I would probably have challenged them to see who could get the most air.

We love photographing using beautiful natural light, especially amongst the pine trees. I love zooming in for the closeup shots with my favourite 70-200mm lense, while Daron captures the full perspective – TEAMWORK.

These photos are going to look spectacular in their large premium photobook, I can’t wait to start designing it.

The bridal party have been so awesome and helpful today, which has made it really enjoyable for all.

My heart actually beats faster when a couple are greeted back into the reception. There is so much cheering and clapping and excitment for the evening ahead.

We love photographing wedding receptions, it’s a lot of fun scanning the room for those fun spontaneous shots.

So far this summer has provided us with a mixed bag of weather and today was no exception. It was drizzling when we met up with Ben and his groomsmen at the back of Monaco. Fingers crossed that the weather would be kind to us for the rest of the day.

We had spoken with Ben on the phone earlier in the morning, he told us that he was feeling a little anxious and was very keen to start the guys pre-ceremony shots (at that time he was about an hour early). Once we started clicking away, his nerves subsided, especially after we showed him a few shots on the back of the camera (that one always seems to work).

After photographing the guys we drove the short distance to the Grand Mercure Monaco Resort where Katie and her bridesmaids were getting ready in the Honeymoon Suite. We started with photographing Katie’s gorgeous white wedding dress.

The girls earrings were inside this cute little bag.

Katies dress took a little while to tie up but many hands make light work.

Katie was concerned that her garter might fall down when she walked up the isle. Solution – move it up higher. As you can see, this attracted a lot of laughs.

Time was racing by, we had about twenty minutes to capture some shots of Katie before the ceremony. The great thing about getting dressed and married at the Monaco Resort, is we don’t have to walk too far to the Village Green where the ceremony is held.

And that time has now come…

Just one last look before Katie walks out the door.

Callum has a last minute check to see if the wedding rings are in the box,  “Yep they are there”.

I love this part of the wedding when the bride sees her groom for the first time on the day. The great thing about having two photographers is we can take photos at the same time from varying locations around the ceremony venue. Daron’s shot…

We had an audience watching from one of the Monaco apartments – perfect view.

This is why we love photographing weddings on the Village Green at the Monaco, such a stunning scene.

These lovely vibrant wedding bouquets came from Sara-lee at Earthbloom Flowerstore.

So far this wedding season we have worked with marriage celebrant Rachel Schepers a number of times and there are plenty more to come for 2012.

The wedding ceremony is a very special time for the bride and grooms parents, we’re always on the lookout for the odd tear.

“I do”.

With most outdoor weddings these days, there is less formality and more laughter.

What could be more appropriate than to make your own wedding vows on the wings of a Monarch Butterfly? It is a special meaning for all to watch as your butterflies are released, and your vows are taken up to the heavens to be granted.

I think that these guys wanted to hang around for awhile before taking Katie & Ben’s wedding vows to heaven.

Daron was standing on a plastic flower stand to get high enough for this group shot. I wasn’t sure it was such a good idea but the groomsmen assured me that it would hold. It did – phew!

The rain had stayed away all day, but it was still very muddy

We often get requests to have location photos taken on this private property. We certainly appreciate having permission to come here as we love the rustic look.

During the planning stages of a wedding, we discuss with the bride and groom about our style of photography and how we create a fun environment during the location photos. We also mention to them that we can only capture what we are given; no issues with Ben & Katie, they were laughing all day long.

Chrissy and I arrived at Te Mahia on the Friday evening, where we were greeted by Gareth, Nic, friends and family and a yummy barbecue. Te Mahia Bay Resort is such an idyllic wedding venue in the Marlborough Sounds, surrounded by native bush, turquoise water and a private pebble beach – just beautiful!

Our fishing trip was a three hour excursion around the Kenepuru Sounds, despite the fact that the fish weren’t hungry (good thing we weren’t also) everyone had a great time!

So much effort goes into the wedding day and it can’t be easy planning a destination wedding from overseas.  Nic and Gareth had thought of everything, notice that I put Nic’s name first (Sorry Gareth, the girls really do most of this planning stuff).

For keepsakes the bridesmaids were given an engraved silver locket each, nice touch guys.

As part of the pre-wedding planning, we offer the bride the opportunity to have some glamour photos taken before the wedding ceremony. We really enjoyed taking these magazine style photos of Nic.

Emotions were high, there is something very special when the mother walks the bride down the Isle.

Jann Hook, marriage celebrant and owner of Te Mahia Bay Resort shares this special time with Gareth.

Family and friends had travelled from all over New Zealand to celebrate this wonderful wedding.

They say it’s good luck if a Tui is present at your wedding. This Tui apparently turns up at most weddings at Te Mahia. Nice shot Chrissy, bird photographers would be envious.

Of course, we had to have the “All Black” look, especially after winning the world cup an all.

With the formalities over, it’s now time for fun location shots, ching, ching.

Years ago my parents used to manage the campground at Mistletoe Bay, I never thought back then that one day I would be a professional wedding photographer photographing wedding photos here, funny how life works out.

“Now boys, we need a ride, it’s not easy walking in high heel shoes”.

Unfortunately the car didn’t stop, so the guys thought they better take matters into their own hands (I mean arms).

Our style of wedding photography comprises beautiful panoramic scenery; this is what we enjoy the most.

And so do the newlyweds.

Now, this was extremely funny. Gareth volunteered to get into the dingy, Nic wasn’t sure at first, as she didn’t want a drenched groom, so she reeled him in.

I was in the water with my pants rolled up and couldn’t quite get the flash at the right angle to photograph the girls. Captain Gareth to the rescue!

It was very windy and Nic did really well to keep her balance – after all, Gareth didn’t want a drenched bride.

Back on land and time for a little romance.

The wedding reception was held in the large marquee back at Te Mahia, Jann and Trevor had done an awesome job setting up the guest and bridal tables, not to mention the scrumptious meal as well. The labelled whisky bottles that Gareth and Nic had provided was a real nice touch.

After the meal and between the cake cutting and first dance, we took the bride and groom out for a few more location shots.

There is a special time just as the sun disappears that the sky is a dark vibrant blue, this colour is often not seen with the naked eye, but the camera picks it up. I often get asked if I photoshop these types of photos, we use lights to capture this look and don’t rely on post processing for effect.

The photos speak for themselves, and this is just a small amount out of many hundreds that Gareth and Nic will cherish for a life-time. It’s so much fun when Chrissy and I get away and photograph a destination wedding, we get to spend time with so many wonderful people and enjoy the beautiful scenery that New Zealand has to offer. Thanks Gareth and Nicola for a FANTASTIC weekend!

I met up with the guys late morning, I actually turned up an hour early, so I decided to come back after a walk around the Blenheim township.

On my little walk around, I found this place – perfect – I’ll bring the guys back here for a few shots.

Alison and her bridesmaids got ready at her parent’s house. Alison’s father was a true photographer at heart, he asked me if I minded if he took some black and white photos with his old Rolleiflex camera during the day. Mmmmm, I would love that old collectable camera myself.

Everyone was having a great time and there was heaps of laughter.

The wedding ceremony was held at St Mary’s Catholic
Church in Blenheim. The boys didn’t have far to walk.

Because here comes the beautiful bride.

Whenever I go upstairs in an old church and start walking around on creaky floor boards, I’m always concerned about the amount of noise that I might be making. Chrissy usually frowns at me if I’m making too much noise. But not today, she’s home in Nelson looking after our three children.

There were certainly lots of smiles, after all, it was Paul’s brother who was officiating the ceremony.

Proud parents, family and friends watched intently.

” You are now husband and wife, you may kiss your bride”.  Too late, these two had already done that.

Alison’s brother was busy videoing all day.

This was private land; I tracked down the owner, Marcel, who also owns the Raupo Riverside Cafe and asked if we could use this area for photos. When we arrived here the next day, waiting for us was a large basket filled with wine and beer. At first I was very confused, as no one else knew that we were here at this location.  Not only had Marcel kindly gifted this to the wedding party, but he also brought down some freshly cooked h’orderves – such unbelievable generiousty.

On the way back we stopped for a few minutes at this old country bridge – glad that we did.

The wedding reception was held at Brancott Estate just out of Blenheim. You can’t come to a top wine vineyard without having a stroll between the grapes.

I certainly enjoyed the company of these guys today.

George grew up in Nelson and is a kiwi boy. He is now a Lieutenant for the US Navy and pilots F18 fighter jets. Today George is going to marry the, “love of his life”.

George’s friends and fellow officers travelled from their base in San Diego to share this special day. These guys were so much fun, the poor Marine (dressed in black) was a little out numbered, not that he couldn’t stand up for himself of course.

The night before the wedding I watched the movie Top Gun with my eight year old son. Young Sam couldn’t stop talking throughout the movie, he couldn’t believe that we were going to photograph real fighter pilots that had flown numerous combat missions in the Middle East.

George kindly supplied these photos that he took.

Interesting enough, when I asked George why he chose this vocation, he told me that Top Gun had inspired him. Even though the movie was very, “Hollywood” it did portray some aspects of the strict training that young pilots must go through to a be an elite pilot for the US Navy and US Marines. George is currently instructing trainee pilots to take-off and land on aircraft carriers.

Jessica’s mum Silvia happily watches her daughters, Jessica and Ange getting dressed for this big occasion.

For their wedding photos, George and Jessica wanted to capture not only the day as it unfolded but also the beautiful scenery that the Nelson area has to offer.

Not sure what was said, must have been very funny!

George’s uncle used to own Hervey Motors years ago – very cute!

It had previously been raining, it was now a beautiful bright sunny Nelson day – perfect for an outdoor wedding.

Soon after they got married, George’s parents, Bob and Gay spent many years living in Saudi Arabia. Their good friend Pat travelled all the way from Saudi to share this wonderful time with them all.

This is what dream weddings are made of.

Nelson went through the Navy academy and flight training school with George. He’s not only George’s best friend he’s also about to become his brother in-law.

What better way to walk down the isle than with both of your loving parents.

George wasn’t the only one with tears in his eyes, I think that most of the guests did as well (not to mention my wife, she’s such a big softy at weddings).

The wedding ceremony was held at George’s parents house just out of Richmond. Bob and Gay had everything looking just beautiful!

There was so much humour throughout the speeches.

Daron used one of the bridesmaid’s bright pink parasols and Aneisha’s engagement ring for this creative photo – pretty cool aye!

A lovely bouquet from Bluebell Florist, perfectly matched with the pink parasols.

We had invited Aneisha and her bridesmaid’s to get dressed at
our house. This gave us the opportunity to set up a white studio
background for these shots.

Aneisha looked amazing and as always, exceptional makeup from
Rachel Roper.

Just gorgeous.

The sound of a couple of powerful V8 Holden Commodores is enough to make any man smile, we certainly all new when the girls had arrived.

Being such a hot day, the parasols certainly served their purpose in keeping the sun of the girls as well as looking very cool.

For a wedding last summer, Murray had kindly set this fence up for us to use for location wedding photos. Unfortunately we had a cloudy old day, but today PERFECT – just the effect we wanted.

It was really enjoyable photographing Dan and Aneisha, they are such a wonderful couple.

On our way back to Nelson we had a quick stop on the Collingwood Street bridge for some fun, yet unique wedding photos.

The girls are coming to town…

And boys always follow girls!

To stay out of the wind we decided to hit the Nelson Streets, starting here in Bridge Street.

We attracted a bit of attention from people passing by, I suppose it’s
not every day that you see a bride and groom sitting on a bar table
outside a Nelson City night club!

Mmmm tender moments… everyone was having a great time, especially these two love birds.

Further on down Bridge Street we spotted this brightly coloured alleyway, just perfect for urban street wedding photography.

Daron saw this large billboard and asked Aneisha to strut the pose – it was certainly good for a laugh.

We love the structure of The Nelson Cathedral, add a beautiful bride
and groom, lighting and you can create magic.

Today was about celebrating love and commitment while having a fun-filled time doing it. Dan and Aneisha, we really enjoyed spending this special day with you. Best wishes to you and your beautiful family.
