Hadley & Rachel married!
April 7th 2018 was a great day because Hadleigh and Rachel were getting married – YIPPEE. They stole each others hearts and we’re thrilled to be sharing their love story and a few of our favorite wedding pictures from the day.
Six years ago, Hadleigh and his mates had just got back from a fishing trip and were sorting through the catch in his fathers garage, when a gorgeous blonde walked in who turned his eye. Rachel was good friends with Hadleigh’s sister Milissa, and had popped around for a visit. Next thing Hadleigh starts showing up at all of his sisters bbq’s and then invited Rach to go fishing with him which just happened to be one of her favorite activities.
Fishing trips were fun, they had a whale of a time and Hadleigh soon decided he would like to ‘snapper up’ Rach, so he invited her for pizza one evening. They now joke about how he tried to poison her on their first date because he didn’t know at the time that she was allergic to pizza sauce. Hadleigh ended up eating the pizza and Rach had a bowl of cereal.
Ethan, Travis, Hadleigh and Matt got ready at the Wharfside Apartments along the stunning Mapua waterfront. Hadleigh was born and raised in Mapua and the boys all went to school together, staying best mates ever since. They’re all hunter gatherer type guys and spend as much time together as possible fishing and hunting.
I recognised one of the groomsmens’ names (that being Travis), and asked him if he was from Dovedale? I lived there as a teenager and knew his parents, Evan and Ann, as they were our neighbours. My siblings and I would help his father on the farm and I loved jumping on the back of the land-rover to check on the newborn lambs and also learning to drive around the farm. My sisters and I used to babysit Travis and his two older siblings when he was just a baby….. my doesn’t time fly.
Ooops… we decided Matt’s muscles were just too big for his vest. Fortunately Hadleigh’s dad came to the rescue and drove to Nelson to get a replacement, making it back just in time for the ceremony. Good one Gordy!
Looking very sharp guys!
Beautiful morning for a stroll along the Mapua Waterfront, we couldn’t have wished for a more perfect day.
Now Ethan (bestman) was flatting with Hadleigh when a certain blonde started making frequent appearances and interfering with the lads hunting and fishing rituals…..
“Working late” meant dinner date. “Going to the shop quickly” meant dropping flowers or coffee off on her front doorstep. “I’m staying at dads place this weekend” meant Rach’s flatmates were away…..
Now this was all fine until she started coming FISHING!
Ethan wasn’t too sure on the new situation at first and would often throw a bit of stick Hadleigh’s way, hoping things would return to normal. But it didn’t take long before everybody got used to Rach being around. She slotted right into their fishing and diving adventures, packed a mean lunch, wasn’t afraid to bait her own hooks and best of all, she didn’t take up much space. Rach became one of the boys.
We left Mapua and enjoyed the drive over to Kaiteri Beach where Rach and the girls were getting ready at her family bach. The view was stunning and the water was sparkling but not as much as Rach’s smile.
Brooke, Rach, Milissa and Penny started off the morning eating cake.
Love this bright colourful bouquet of gerbera’s from Katrin at Got it Covered.
We met Rach 4 years ago when she was a bridesmaid for her best friend and about to be sister in law Milissa. We were excited when we got the email saying her and Hadleigh were engaged and would we like to photograph their wedding.
Rach is a lot of fun to be around. She’s so bubbly and sweet and literally glowed with happiness, today it was her turn to be a beautiful princess.
As Rachel didn’t want her bridesmaids to see her yet, her mum Sue was the chief helper. So many special moments with these two lovely humans.
Yellow has always been Rach’s favorite colour so she was pretty excited about her wedding shoes.
Hadleigh reckons that as far as in-laws go, he absolutely nailed it with Alan and Suzie and we agree, they’re absolutely lovely.
So pretty in blue and check the shoes out… nice!
One super stunning bride.
It was time to leave Kaiteri Beach and drive back over to Motueka to the fabulous old Northwood homestead where Hadleigh and Rach were holding their wedding ceremony. It’s a beautiful property owned by Rach’s cousin and has a lot of family history. Rach’s great grandfather built this home and Rach’s parents had their wedding photos taken here 37 years ago. Very special indeed.
Rach arrived in style in a yellow mustang, exactly the same colour as her shoes – very cool.
The boys were looking pretty sharp and waiting in anticipation for the bride to arrive.
The beautiful sounds of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ filled the air as Rach walked up the isle on the arm of her very proud father, today he was giving his only daughter away.
Nelson wedding celebrant Diane Strong is also a family friend and as usual she wrote a beautiful ceremony, relaxed and fun, yet unique and personal, always a pleasure to catch up with this gorgeous lady.
From the moment Hadleigh first laid eyes on Rach, he was struck on her and that hasn’t changed to this day. She puts so much effort into their life together, creating good things out of nothing. He’s so proud to being marrying his best friend and team mate today.
Rach loves that Hadleigh is such a decent guy, so positive, genuine, kind, capable and incredibly supportive. He fits into her life with friends and family like a duck to water and always has her back.
They committed themselves to each other’s hearts, to share in all life’s incredible moments and to help make each other’s dreams reality. They have more fun together than they ever thought possible with another human being.
Wedding rings are a symbol of commitment and love. They are made of solid, sturdy material which is meant to survive years and years of hand-holding, washing dishes, working, high fiving, fist bumping and tender caresses. Couple’s wear their wedding rings every day as a symbol of their love…. and to make all their single friends jealous.
Signed, sealed, delivered.
Hehe, Ethan must have thought Rach’s knees looked a lot comfier than the chair.
Their ultimate commitment of marriage to each other was sealed with a kiss and they became Mr and Mrs Webb – woohoo!
Milissa and her husband Darryl now have a wee baby boy who Hadleigh and Rach love being uncle and aunty to.
It was a beautiful reunion of family and friends. These are the special people who have watched Hadleigh and Rach grow up, who went to school with them and worked with them. Hadleigh and Rach were honoured and humbled by the effort people made to be here, especially those who traveled from afar.
Imagine having this fountain in your back yard!
Magical moments all day long.
Pretty flash wedding cars.
LOVING the colour yellow!
We thoroughly enjoyed the location shoot, so much bantering and fun with these cool kids.
Unfortunately Rabbit Island is being logged so we have to keep finding new area’s of trees to photograph in. We just found this spot for Hadleigh and Rach’s wedding and now they’re GONE….AAARGH!
One love, two souls.
Our cute little helper.
We were having so much fun that before we knew it, it was time to go to The Playhouse. The reception was about to get into full swing with delicious food and the funniest speeches.
Vicki from Icedelites made this lovely wedding cake.
Now the speech of the day had to go to young Travis. It was a re-make of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme song and it was certainly a highlight of Hadleigh and Rach’s day, it was brilliant:
Now this is a story all about how, Hadleigh meet his girl in a small town. Now I’d like to take a minute just sit right there, I’ll tell you all about how he met the girl with blonde hair!
Mapua born and raised, out on the ocean is where he spent most of his days. Casting out, jigging, drinking, all cool, setting lines after school!
When a slightly older bird who was up to no good, caught his eye which gave him wood. He went on one little date and the boys got scared, we said she won’t stick around if you ain’t got no beard!
It was five years later, our biggest fear, young Hadleigh was getting hitched to the girl with blonde hair. If anything I could say this love was weird, but I hope we all find a love like theirs!
He pulled up to the alter big toe and all, then Rach walked down and wowed us all. She’s bloody stunning what can I say, we all forgot about him, it was defs her day!
Now raise your glasses for the bridesmaids, don’t they look super hot today. And don’t forget the bride and room, tonight we’re here to celebrate you. Today’s the day you’ll treasure for life, because tonight you leave as man and wife.
The light danced in and out of clouds as the sun set and Daron and I headed home with happy hearts.
Thanks Hadleigh and Rach for asking us to be a part of your special day. It was a pleasure meeting your family and friends and spending the day with your super cool bridal party. We wish you all the best in your new adventure together as husband and wife.
