Beautiful Nelson Wedding
We’re just a tad excited to be sharing some of our favorite moments of Rhys and Abbie’s fabulous wedding day. This Storybook is full of deliciousness, we hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
Abbie was just a young lass when we photographed her as a bridesmaid at her big sister Katelyn’s wedding 8 years ago. She comes from a very large family of 11 children whom we’ve also had the pleasure of taking some lovely family portraits of. Today we were really looking forward to seeing everybody again as we’ve watched the family grow over the years with many new grandchildren arriving.
Abbie and the girls were lucky enough to be able to get ready at her Aunty Helen’s house the morning of the wedding. It was perfect as it was nearby their wedding ceremony venue at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Nelson.
After leaving school, Abbie decided to spread her wings and have a gap year in Australia. Leaving little old Nelson, she jumped on a plane and flew to Queensland where she lived with her cousin Abe and his wife Pip. However before the year was up, she decided to stay because she was enjoying it so much and she had also met a special young man named Rhys.
Rhys was working for cousin Abe as an electrician and so he would come over to the house a lot. He and Abbie became very good friends and found out they had a lot in common, especially playing sport and other outdoor activities. They also both love watching the rugby and have a strong Wallaby/All Black rivalry. Six months later after a classic dinner and movie evening, Rhys asked Abbie to be his girlfriend.
For the next stage in their relationship, Rhys took Abbie to Noosa saying he wanted to go for a surf. When they got there they went for a walk and Abbie saw this cute little picnic setup with a white teepee, cushions, blankets, champagne and yummy food. As they were walking past it, Abbie was like “look at this little picnic someone has set up”, she turned around to find Rhys down on one knee proposing. That romantic picnic was for her and was to become a very significant moment in their lives, the moment that has bought friends and family together today in Abbie’s home town of Nelson.
Fast forwarding to the big day, Abbie’s bridal party consisted of her two sisters Katelyn and Monique, cousins Makaila and Eily, best friend Ashley and young nieces Casey and Rose.
It was all go in this household and so much fun capturing the girls getting ready. Happiness and excitement were certainly in the air today.
Every little girl dreams of the day she gets to look like a princess.
Erin watched on proudly as her youngest daughter prepared for the big day.
A mothers love is second to none.
Abbie found her perfect dress in the Sunshine Coast of Australia. It was overlayed with the prettiest lace and she looked absolutely exquisite on her wedding day.
Family friend Adrienne made this beautiful tear drop bouquet.
Gorgeous girls, pretty as a picture!
The first look with dad was a little emotional and it was Abbie that burst into tears first, she nearly started me off as well.
Father Paul is a very dear friend who came over from Australia to marry Rhys and Abbie. He has had a huge impact on their faith and their relationship so when they got engaged, they knew they wanted him to marry them.
Rhys was literally beaming from ear to ear as Abbie walked up the isle. He has the biggest most infectious smile, in fact I think the only time I didn’t see him smile today was when he was kissing Abbie.
We love long trains and veils especially in this church because the view from above is awesome.
Bob was proud as punch to be walking his youngest daughter up the isle. It’s a very special moment and more so this time because Abbie is the last of his daughters to be married.
We love that this church has an upstairs to photograph from, it has such a great view from above.
The exchange of weddings rings is a symbol of commitment; a promise, a pledge, and a vow. The promise is to forsake all others, to stay devoted and true; the pledge is to honor that promise selflessly, to see the whole thing through; and the vow is to keep that pledge unwaveringly, until the days are few. It is a mutual agreement to become one instead of two.
All the littlies were very well behaved and for some of them it was their first wedding, so they were very excited to see what it was all about.
I had a wee chuckle to myself over this young lass, school teacher in the making perhaps?
Beautiful flowers adorned all the church pews, it looked really lovely.
Introducing Mr and Mrs Langford.
This is Abbie’s beautiful family. All you parents out there know it’s not an easy job bringing up children and so we have huge admiration and respect for Bob and Erin who have raised these 11 gorgeous people and who now also have 13 grandchildren in the mix.
What I like most about weddings is the coming together of families and today Abbie’s Kiwi family and Rhys’s Aussie family joined in love and celebrated this wonderful day together.
Apart from Abbie’s brother Shaun on the left, Rhys’s groomsmen had all come over from Australia. It was a fun afternoon of Aussie/Kiwi banter with Daron making sure he was the first to throw in a few Aussie jokes.
Don’t they all look lovely?
This is a rugby scrum, Aussie style….
We love having such an enthusiastic bridal party, makes the day so much fun.
Apparently leapfrogging over Abbie is a normal thing for Rhys to do. Are you sure you don’t have springs in your legs Rhys?
Absolutely loving the dress, so elegant Abbie!
Looking mighty fine boys, you clean up alright for Aussies hehe.
Abbie has 8 brothers so she’s used to hanging out with the boys. When we said pick her up and throw her in the air we didn’t really mean it, but it did make for some good pictures.
Young love is so so precious!
Next location was the Queens Gardens which is always great for wedding photos. I swear today was the hottest day of summer so the shaded areas were an absolute blessing.
Love is not finding a person you can live with, it’s finding the person you can’t live without.
We love veils!
This is one of my favorite photos of the day; it has a mystical feel like they’re walking off into the light.
Check out this absolutely incredible cake made by Pip and Brigid, the Bonnie Bakers. They are also friends who came over from Australia and Rhys and Abbie were so thankful for all of those people who helped make their wedding day extra special.
Rhys and Abbie, your greatest journey has begun as husband and wife and we’re so excited for you both. You have many adventures ahead of you so enjoy each moment as you grow in love together.
