Billy & Monica Married!
Billy and Monica married in sunny Blenheim at the lovely Woodend Gardens. They wished for a casual lighthearted ceremony that reflected who they are and what family and friends mean to them. It was a fabulous day and we hope you enjoy their wedding storybook.
Billy and Monica met 18 years ago when they both worked at the New World Butchery in Blenheim. They became good friends and played in various indoor netball and touch teams together. After Billy left to work in another butchery, they didn’t see each other that often until Billy got in contact with Monica six years ago and asked her out for a coffee. Monica didn’t feel it was fair to pursue a relationship at the time though as she was committed with studying to become an early childhood teacher and helping to look after her very sick mother.
Life carried on until their paths crossed again two years later with their friendship blossoming into a beautiful romance. Sometimes good things just take time.
On their first date Monica got a taste of Billy’s culinary skills with a beautiful home cooked meal and he made such a good impression that he now does all the cooking. Hmmm, I’m sure there’s a lot of envious women reading this right now.
On Christmas day of 2016, Billy proposed to Monica in front of their 18 month old daughter Marlee and Billy’s daughter Shonny; it was the best present ever. Two days later, Daron and I were pretty chuffed when they contacted us about photographing their wedding and before we knew it the big day came around and we were photographing Billy and the boys getting ready.
Now that’s teamwork!
Billy is one of those guys that seems to take everything in his stride. He actually surprised us because he seemed so relaxed about the photos even though we knew it was a bit daunting for him.
Billy and his two gorgeous girls.
As well as the excitement of marrying the one you love, it’s also awesome that you get to enjoy the day with your best mates. Billy’s groomsman Campbell has remained his good friend since childhood and best man Grant has followed him around in butchering jobs for many years; apparently they just can’t be apart.
Cute legs boys!
Leaving the boys to their man hugs, Daron and I headed to the Chateau Marlborough where there was all sorts of loveliness waiting for us.
There’s always time between hair and makeup for cuddles, especially when you have a toddler as adorable as little Marlee.
Dad getting prepped for the big day ahead.
Sneaking a peek.
A wedding day can be a very emotional time especially if you have lost a parent and when Monica’s father Owen first saw her as a bride, it hit me straight in the heart as I understood that moment too well. You’re very brave Mon and much love surrounded your family today.
Pink Poppy Florist have an amazing reputation for delivering beautiful wedding bouquets and it’s not hard to see why. The sweet smell of roses is second to none.
Monica’s sister Kelly and best friend Rachael were the best bridesmaids ever, today was all about loving and supporting Monica on one of the most joyful days of her life.
Monica looked simply stunning in her dream wedding dress from Astra Bridal. Her two nieces Millie and Ava were also a tad excited to be wearing pretty flower girl dresses along with baby Marlee.
The morning went so fast that before we knew it, the girls were walking up the isle at Woodend Gardens and everyone was waiting with baited breathe to see the gorgeous bride.
One of Billy and Monica’s favorite moments of the day was watching young Marlee walk down the isle. She had just started her shy stage and they had no idea how she would go, but she did so well, running towards her dad who had a few tears.
Billy chose the wedding song ‘Every Breath You Take’, by the Police. Afterwards they realised it was quite funny because the song is actually about stalking, which Monica says suited perfectly as Billy stalked her until she finally said yes to a date, hehe.
Billy and Monica were married by lovely wedding celebrant Jacqui Leslie who is also a good friend of theirs. She wrote the following poem which I just love:
In the future I see Mon and Billy.
I see fishing trips out in the Queen Charlotte Sound and a designer kennel for the hound.
I see you both sitting by the window looking at the water and listening to music and doing what you oughta.
I see dinner parties surrounded by family and friends and a chicken coop with four feathered friends.
I see cosy nights in front of the fire and a four poster bed for when they tire.
I see your kitchen which is the heart of the home and a victorian bath brimming with foam.
I see muddy gumboots by the front door and children eating bikkies and asking for more.
I see nights on the deck looking up at the stars and shelves full of mismatching jam jars.
I see the pitter patter of little feet and going on overseas holidays as a treat.
I see firewood trips out in the back blocks and a new designer garden with Onamalutu rocks.
I see laughter, pain, kisses and tears, and helping each other confront your fears.
I see a wonderful, happy future for you both.
All the best and congratulations from those that love you the most.
Billy’s eldest daughter Hannah also read out a lovely poem called ‘The One’.
Billy promised to let Monica sleep in on weekends and cook her meals. Monica promised to always have a beer in the fridge, laugh at Billy’s jokes and scratch his back. Sounds like a good compromise to me.
We headed just up the road to Rarangi Beach which just happens to be one of our favorite locations for wedding pictures.
These two special people are so adorable together, we had a really fun time photographing them and their bridal party. Enjoy the photo feast.
I’m not sure what Billy said to Monica but it certainly got the reaction we were hoping for and it’s ended up being one of my favorite pictures.
Such a beautiful beach to stroll along but you have to watch the waves, they come in rather quickly.
Back at the wedding reception in the Clubs of Marlborough, there was delicious food, great speeches and lots of laughing all night long. It was certainly a night to remember.
What a beaut candle.
Good times with good people…..
These two sweethearts captivated the floor with their kind words.
We wanted to capture the last of the light rays and the fountain at Seymour Square worked a treat.
Billy and Mon, we’re really honoured that you chose us to capture your special day and hope you’re enjoying your beautiful photobook. Wishing you all the very best in married life.
