Beautiful Westport wedding…
We were absolutely thrilled to photograph Kyl and Melissa’s wedding in Westport earlier this year. It was a thoroughly enjoyable weekend away and everybody was so friendly and welcoming, it was just like being part of a big family. Kyl and Melissa traveled up to Nelson last year for some engagement photos as neither of them felt that comfortable in front of a camera. They had so much fun they couldn’t wait to do it all again for their wedding.
Kyl and Melissa have two of the cutest children ever, two and half year old Lucus and 10 month old Natalie. Lucas just loved hanging out with all the boys this morning. His wee face is super adorable, you just want to sprinkle it with smoochy kisses.
Kyl’s brother Jordan came to the rescue and helped all the guys with their ties – phew.
Kyl and Melissa are true West Coasters. Both born and bred in Westport, they have known each other since they were little, as you do in a small town. They both have mutual friends but hadn’t talked to each other in a while and then Kyl messaged her one night. Melissa had just finished watching a scary movie and couldn’t sleep, so Kyl suggested she come around and they watch a Disney movie together. Well good old Tinkerbell must have waved her magic wand because it was the start of a beautiful relationship and these two became inseparable.
Kyl waited until Melissa’s 25th birthday to propose. He dressed Lucas in a little onesie which said “Will you marry dad… ps he owes you a ring”. How could you say no to that precious little face!
Awesome ring box.
You couldn’t meet a nicer guy than Kyl, he’s just so kind and genuine and a real family man. Love and pride shine in his eyes every time he looks at Melissa and their children.
Five handsome young men; Best man Jason and four brothers Jordan, Kyl, Neil and Reagan.
The guys were pretty chuffed when Kyl gifted each of them with a pocketknife as a keepsake.
Not far away Melissa and the girls were getting ready at her parents house. There was so much excitement buzzing in the air.
The girls all looked fabulous, it’s such a fun time preparing for a wedding. Melissa had chosen best friends Emma and Ashley, and twin sisters Jessica and Ashley as her bridesmaids.
Always time for mama hugs.
Local seamstress Kathy Dodson created Melissa’s dream dress from a picture she showed her. I think dress makers are so so talented being able to create something so beautiful from scratch.
Precious parent moments!
This wee treasure is baby Natalie. She just started to walk a few days ago which was really exciting as she would be able to walk up the isle on her own with her brother and cousin.
Melissa’s neice Ella was also part of the wedding party. Cuteness overload right here…
I love the choice of bridesmaid dresses and the girls all looked so pretty, they were such a pleasure to photograph.
Check out this stunning bouquet from local florist Lisa Ferguson.
We love taking beautiful closeups of our brides and Melissa looked such a vision of lovliness.
The wedding ceremony was held at the River Garden Retreat. It’s a lovely place to get married with amazing gardens and picturesque views over the Buller River.
So cute watching the little ones walk up the isle.
Kyl was high on emotion as Melissa and her father walked towards him and there were a few tears which Melissa found really sweet (it’s okay Kyl, I’m not going to show the telltale pictures haha).
Kyl and Melissa promised to encourage, inspire, be honest and love each other unconditionally through all their adventures in life together.
Halfway through the ceremony, Lucas thought it was such a hot day that perhaps his mum needed a glass of water. The little guy literally had everybody in hysterics when he ran up and handed it to her.
With friends and family cheering them on, Kyl and Melissa joined the married club.
Congratulations you two lovely humans.
Bubbles are just the best entertainment.
After the family and group photos we took the bride and groom away to explore the extensive gardens of the retreat.
These two lovebirds are so sweet together, they totally adore each other with their looks, their words and their actions.
Spoilt for choices to take photos within these beautiful gardens.
Such awesome people to spend the day with, West Coasters absolutely rock!
Our next location was the spectacular Tauranga Bay. While Daron was taking some dramatic shots of Kyl and Melissa on the rocks, I took the bridal party for a wander further up the track.
There’s nothing quite like the wild rugged beauty of the West Coast and Tauranga Bay put it on today with it’s powerful crashing waves.
I’m always in love with Daron’s signature shots.
Hmmm nice socks boys!
On that note it was time to head to the reception venue which was in the Pulse Energy Recreation Centre in Westport.
It looked amazing and Kyl and Melissa were extremely appreciative of the great team effort from family and friends who helped set it up the night before.
Jason isn’t big on public speaking and had been so nervous about his speech. He did such a great job though and I think he even surprised himself because he had everybody in hysterics.
Emma has been Melissa’s best friend since kindergarten days so she had a lot of great stories to tell as well.
Melissa’s Aunty Michelle made their fabulous wedding cake.
The goody snack table was covered in amazing treats.
Kyl and Melissa, we were overjoyed to capture your special day and wish you and your wee family all the happiness in the world. Weddings like yours are exactly why we love our job so much.
