Ben & Megan married!
February is one of the hottest month to get married. The sun can be pretty intense and we absolutely swelter in the heat. Today however, Daron and I were very very happy as we had some cloud cover – YIPPEE. Not only was it nice to work in the cooler weather but it certainly makes photography easier when we don’t have so much harsh light to battle against.
So finally it’s Ben and Megan’s special day and we were really excited to be a part of it. Megan’s hometown is here in lovely Nelson so it was a beautiful gathering of family and friends from all over the country. We loved capturing the many wonderful moments throughout the day
Ben and Megan are medical professionals and were both living and working in Wellington at the time they met. They had briefly worked on the same hospital ward together but had never communicated, admiring each other from afar. It was at a Dave Dobbyn concert in Tauranga when they officially met and they really hit it off.
Their relationship blossomed and since then they have lived and worked in Auckland, Perth and the UK, before settling back in Wellington.
Ben and the boys were all looking pretty sharp the morning of the big day, bowties being the perfect touch.
We were pretty stoked with the tree lined driveway, it was just awesome for wedding photos.
Cheers to best mates.
It was a nice relaxed photoshoot of the girls getting ready. There were bubbles and a lot of laughs with these gorgeous girls who all went to high school together. Even though they all live in different parts of New Zealand and Australia, it’s just like old times when they’re together again.
Marie from Imperial Rose created some stunning bouquets with a beautiful mix of soft colours.
Megan’s wedding dress was just perfect for her, she looked absolutely stunning.
Girlfriends – they’re the best!
Ben and Megan chose Palmer’s Estate in Richmond for their wedding venue. Having both ceremony and reception in one place means the guests can just relax for the day and evening.
Such a beautiful place for a garden wedding.
Light showers came over just before the ceremony but the guests were well prepared.
Ben was looking pretty chuffed as Megan and her dad walked down the isle.
Check out all the umbrella’s – so many awesome designs and colours.
We always love to capture the parents’ expressions during the ceremony.
Ben and Megan’s family friend Erin came down from Wellington to be their wedding celebrant. Actually it was her very first wedding and she did an amazing job.
Phew the rain stopped, it’s no easy task trying to hold a camera and umbrella at the same time.
Ben and Megan exchanged rings and kissed, signed the papers and walked back up the isle, grinning from ear to ear as husband and wife.
Comparing camera’s – hmmm I think I took that one out.
Such an awesome bunch of lovely people, all so excited to be here celebrating today.
Just to make the day even cooler, we had the Bel Air and Betsey the Black Cab to transport the wedding party.
Megan spent a lot of time at Rabbit Island growing up and it’s where they held a lot of their family celebrations. It made it all the more special to have their wedding photos taken here.
The colour theme of the bridal party was absolutely perfect for this setting.
Weddings are so much fun to be a part of, especially when you get to hang out with such awesome people.
Seriously, how do you get so many good looking people in one bridal party!
Ben and Megan told us they weren’t that comfortable in front of a camera or big on public displays of affection. They totally nailed it.
Much to our disgust, most of the trees at Rabbit Island are being cut down . When we drove out here a week before the wedding, our favorite trees had disappeared with just stumps left in the ground grrrr. All was well though when we found this cool spot.
I really think I’ve found a favorite new colour, love these bridesmaid dresses.
Earlier in the day we managed to get a few shots of the reception before the guests arrived. Everything was looking splendid in the barn.
Yummy… Chocolate Velvet your cakes rock!
Ben and Megan, it was lovely getting to know you both and sharing in your special day. We hope you enjoy your Storybook and wish you all the very best in your future together as a married couple.
