Pete & Renee Married!
With our summer wedding season coming to an end, we’re about to get very busy sharing the Storybooks of some of our wonderful couples. First up we’re super excited about sharing Pete and Renee’s very special day so sit back, relax and enjoy the loveliness of the day.
About 6 years ago when Renee was working at Tahuna Dental, some builders turned up one day. They were there to build a new retaining wall after the old one had collapsed in the floods. Renee, trying to be subtle, would peer through the blinds at a certain handsome young man, in fact all the girls started having a peek. At the same time though, Pete was checking out Renee at every opportunity as well.
One rainy day Renee’s boss invited the guys in for smoko. Pete and Renee got talking, he tasted her amazing baking and you know what they say, ‘the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach’.
Smoko turned into running dates up the Maitai Valley together after work. Soon after, Pete started casually moving some of his stuff into Renee’s house. One day he saw the spare key in the back door and said “I’ll just take this one shall I”?, he had just made himself a permanent resident. Their relationship went from strength to strength and Renee thought it was a win win situation having her own builder on hand for anything that needed fixing.
Now even though Pete wasn’t shy about starting their relationship off at a gallop, he was a little slow on the uptake of asking her to marry him. He already knew without a doubt that Renee was the one for him but still he waited 5 years to propose. Her birthday came around and they were having dinner at the amazing Hopgoods Restaurant with family and friends. He proceeded to surprise a shell shocked Renee with a wedding proposal in front of the entire restaurant.
Roll on a year later and it’s their wedding day with Pete looking very handsome in his blue suit and bow tie.
We really enjoyed the morning banter with Pete, his father and two brothers.
In fact the three brothers were enjoying it more than you can imagine, so I’m going to have to tell you about my little faux pas of the day. I had misheard Pete’s fathers name and so had been calling him Dick all morning. It wasn’t until we finished the photos that one of the guys came up to me with a big grin and told me his name was actually Durk. They all thought it was a hell of a joke and me, well I could have just crawled into a hole in the ground haha. All in all though, I’m glad I provided everybody with a little entertainment for the day – sorry again Durk.
Renee got ready in the fabulous home of close family friends Rob and Leigh. They took her under their wing when she was younger, treating her like one of their own, and today Rob will have the special honour of walking her down the isle.
While Daron captured the finishing touches of the makeup going on, I was in my element photographing all the gorgeous detail.
Asher Makeup Artistry and Michelle from Hair, Heart and Soul, got busy working their magic and Renee looked lovelier than ever.
We met Rob and Leigh a few years ago, having had the privilege of photographing their son’s wedding in Golden Bay. You couldn’t meet a nicer couple, they always have a smile for everyone.
So in love with this 1938 Rolls Royce, the perfect wedding car.
With the help of Leigh and Wendy (Pete’s mother), Renee got into her fabulous wedding dress, which she found in Brides of Merivale on a girls shopping trip to Christchurch.
The lace overlay was sensational.
Such a stunning bride!
The grand entrance was such a joyful moment for Renee knowing she was about to become Mrs De Groot.
Pete and Renee chose to marry in the courtyard at the historic Fairfield House. It has such beautiful peaceful surroundings and suited their intimate wedding perfectly.
The part I love most about Pete and Renee’s story is that Rob actually delivered Pete as a baby and has been their family doctor ever since. Little did he know back then that one day he would be walking Pete’s bride up the isle to him – so cool.
Pete admitted being a bit choked up as Renee walked towards him to the sweet sounds of Christina Perry’s ‘A Thousand Years’, it was such a surreal moment.
It was the perfect wedding ceremony, simple yet elegant, in front of close family and friends in these stunning natural surroundings – sigh and bliss!
Grinning from ear to ear Pete and Renee became husband and wife.
So much love here today!
We enjoyed exploring the gorgeous grounds of Fairfield House with Pete and Renee before heading to the Nelson Cathedral for more wedding photos.
Pete was just a little bit excited to get behind the wheel of the Rolls Royce.
Their excitement was infectious, neither of them could stop smiling and we had an absolute blast on their location shoot…
Everybody was waiting excitedly for Pete and Renee to arrive back at the reception. The tables looked absolutely stunning with a gold theme and pink roses everywhere.
Oooh just loving the cake and check out the wee figurines – sooo cute!
Pete and Renee we are so thrilled to have captured your special day and wish you both all the happiness in the world.
