James & Chrissy married!
It was their love of sport that brought James and Chrissy together. Needing a change and a good base for traveling, Chrissy had moved from Nelson to Brisbane in 2009 and was living with her older sister Josie and husband Kieran until she found her feet. She met James at a social touch rugby competition in Springfield Lake and they went on to play in the same netball competition, however in different teams. Funnily enough James was actually in Teesh’s team (Chrissy’s other sister who was also living in Brisbane). It took him a while to ask Chrissy out as he was unsure how Teesh would feel about him talking to her little sister, however he built up the courage and they haven’t looked back.
Their first dates consisted of hearty pub meals, watching the footy (mainly NZ beating Aussie, hehe), and spontaneous ice cream missions.
Moving on a couple of years to 2016, Chrissy finally bought James back to New Zealand to meet the rest of her family and to show him where she had grown up on the family farm in Tapawera. James had already spent time in New Zealand snowboarding and he loved it so much it was easy to convince him to get on a plane. They did a lot of sightseeing around Nelson and it was during one of their walks through the beautiful Abel Tasman National Park that James proposed. Little did Chrissy know that James had already spoken to her father about his plans 6 months earlier.
It’s now their wedding day and James was all smiles as he prepared for one of the happiest days of his life.
It’s a really big job organising a wedding from overseas and James and Chrissy decided on the Grand Mercure Monaco Resort as their venue, as they wanted a relaxed outdoor wedding and a place where their guests could stay. James’ family are from Australia so they also traveled from Australia to New Zealand, along with a lot of their friends.
We met James and Chrissy a week before the wedding and felt like we were already friends; we couldn’t wait for their wedding day. Unfortunately, ominous grey clouds were closing in and the rain wasn’t far behind, so dreams of an outside wedding and photos on the beach just weren’t to be. Even though it was disappointing, it didn’t seem to dampen James’ spirits one bit because today he would be marrying the love of his life.
James’ best friend Dilon along with uncle Alex and brother Matthew had also traveled over from Australia to be James’ groomsmen today. They were a really awesome bunch of guys to photograph.
Mela and Jada are Chrissy’s cute wee nieces. They had the special job of being flowergirls today.
Chrissy was very excited; it’s not every day a girl gets her hair and makeup done then gets to dress up like a princess.
Chrissy was also very lucky to have one of her best friends from primary school (Casey from J’adore Hair and Makeup), travel up from Christchurch to glamour them all up.
Ready for the big day, Chrissy looked absolutely sensational and she to was grinning from ear to ear.
A blast of gorgeous colour on a cloudy day.
Best friend Tyler and big sisters Teesh and Josie had also traveled over from Australia. Both of Chrissy’s sisters and their families also live nearby her and James which is pretty awesome.
As the rain set in, plan B was bought into action, the wedding would now be held in the Village Hall at the Monaco Resort.
There is never a dull moment with James; he is the most thoughtful and considerate partner to Chrissy and she loves how they always seem to be on the same page. They enjoy doing the same things and have such huge respect for each other’s families.
James loves Chrissy’s strength and pride in everything she does. He loves her level headedness and great sense of humour, as well as he finds her incredibly attractive. She is his rock.
Surrounded by all the special people who have helped shape their lives in one way or another and with hearts full of joy, James and Chrissy became husband and wife.
And this is what happiness looks like!
Lots of cuteness right here!
All of a sudden it stopped raining, “let’s get outside quickly for the family photos”.
Less than ten minutes later it started to rain again, thankfully we had most of the family photos in the bag…
Armed with umbrella’s we ventured out in the rain and we loved that James and Chrissy put their complete trust in us to create some beautiful wedding images even on a day like today.
We needed to go somewhere to shelter us from the rain, Isle House was perfect!
This was such a cool wedding party.
James and Chrissy are sweet and down to earth and we were blown away by their warmth and charisma.
James and Chrissy share a deep love and respect for each other, the kind everybody hopes to find in another person.
There are some things you just can’t change including the weather, but you can change how you react. James and Chrissy took everything in their stride and enjoyed the day for what it was; we even got to venture into the park in between the rain showers.
Back at the Monaco we took a few shots by the pond before the reception.
Now the rain was coming down heavy, mind you the ducks loved it.
The reception looked so pretty, I especially liked the fairy light backdrop which set the mood perfectly.
Where are they?
Here they are!
There were so many heartfelt moments during the speeches. But the most touching moment was when Josie started her speech and her emotions got the better of her to the point she couldn’t even talk. As sisters do though, Teesh came to the rescue and all was well.
James and mum.
Now these two wee darlings literally stole the dance floor for the rest of the evening, they were incredible. Keaton is Josie’s son and Alani is Teesh’s daughter and they’re not just cousins but best friends. The really exciting news is that they will have a new baby cousin later this year – YES, Chrissy and James are pregnant and we’re super excited for them.
We didn’t get a sunset tonight but we did have fairylights and they worked a treat.
James and Chrissy you’re an amazing couple and you’re going to make awesome parents. So many good things ahead of you and we wish you both all the very best.
Chrissy & Daron x
